If you are simply extending your network upstairs why not try the homeplug route. It uses the house electrical wiring to carry the signal. No complications at all.
The wired signal from a router connects to the homeplug downstairs and from the homeplug upstairs a lan cable to your second pc.
It is very simple and effective. I have been using this system for over two years and bought the two homeplugs in HK
