Braking Chutes
I worked at LHR during 60's as an aircraft handler for BEA. One lunch time we had a flash flood and an Aeroflot TU104 which was landing at the time, aquaplaned and as the brakes didn't do much, he deployed the chute which didn't help much either. Aircraft left the end of the runway - went through the fence and across the Stanwell Moor Road stopping on the grass on the opposite side. Took us ages to get it back.
Also during my time there I saw the occasional Caravelle with a chute deployed.
