I'm very familiar with the areas shown on those two diagrams
Clarry, having another lifetime ago spent around six years there working on a Seismic Survey crew, quite often in areas where tourists never go as there were no roads. We made our own.
In some areas the ground could so easily turn from a relatively hard surface to a sticky quagmire that the standing joke was that if you wanted to get your vehicle (all current model at the time diesel Landcruiser utes) bogged, all you had to do was take a p**s in front of the wheels.
Once got bogged three times in one day, travelling to and from the lines we were working and each time had to dig myself out!
Got back to camp that night covered in mud and thoroughly exhausted.
