Foggy Tales
Last ran into Foggs in the sandpit when he was with EVA on the 744. That would be late 90s prior to him heading back to Vila to work on his tan and do the odd weekly flight. He rocked into town with a wad of "ambergris"... em wanem samting I hear you say?
Well it is actually sperm whale vomit that is a result of eating giant squid then regurgitating the black ink sack. This very smelly conglomeration then floats on the sea and is hardened by the sun, the smell goes away and it becomes a hard waxy substance that is very expensive/kg and used in the perfume industry to enhance the life of the scent in expensive perfumes.
So Foggs and I with ambergris in tow did a round of some of the major perfume suppliers in town to flog the product and get some drinking money, which led to a memory loss as to what happened next. It was a long way from the Talair pilot house in West Goroka where we had seen each other the last time. I believe he is still in Vanuatu.
