If you don't already know about the latest debacle at EK then read on. The following example should adequately explain how Emirates views its employees. (just one example of many during my time at EK).
One of our CC went to the medical clinic complaining of abdominal pains. Apparently tests were taken and somehow the results were misplaced (rumor about the lost results) but anyhow, she was released to continue to work. (basically you have to be dead or have your physical appearance objectionable to get some sick days as a CC)

On her subsequent pairing she fell ill in her hotel room and gave birth to a premature baby. Hotel staff, medical staff and everyone else involved in this event were by all accounts fantastic.

Unfortunately, she has NOW been left on her own because EK has absolved themselves of all responsibility.

SO........a new and surprised mother with a premature baby in a foreign country and the company has already declared they will not cover any costs, let alone a continued stay in the crew hotel. She was fired of course, left to her own devices with her premature baby, while on a layover working for Emirates Airline.

Yeah, she violated the ridiculous pre-marital sex laws in this country and yes she probably should have known she was pregnant...... but ****E happens! It happens to locals too but I'm pretty certain that is taken care of in a manner that is not detrimental to mother or child.

For a company to use excuses to wash their hands of this woman is despicable. So if you think that coming to EK is a wise move, consider the fact that this company views pilots in the same light as Cabin Crew.

We are employed to work for the company, completely abide by the rules (no matter if they are insane and changed on a weekly basis), never ever get in ANY kind of trouble, consider our days off as a 'gift' on the part of EK (quote AAR) and basically be treated like children...... then Dubai SHOULD be your new home!

I guarantee though, the first time YOU offend someone of stature, or in any way get caught disparaging this comedy show, you will change your tune.

I am sure that 10% of the pilot population will side with the company on this one and to those individuals.... you deserve a sad fate. Think long and hard before you defend the company's position on this one!

Is this not the year 2010?

ps. this is based on a forwarded email of a newspaper article and 2 accounts from CC friends (one of whom says she knows the girl but has not spoken to her yet) and also based on the fact that a Fund has been set up to help out this woman. Hopefully these events have been exaggerated, but I doubt it.
