Sorry guys, but an update has to be deployed across all 3 servers and running two different versions is not feasible. However, we will look at a better way of notification for software updates in order to give you a chance to get the update before departing from home.
On the JAVA subject, as FlyUK73 said, that was what was on the market at the time. However, that doesn't mean to say that we don't listen and don't look at options on how the system can evolve, including using a non-Java based application.
That's not a guarantee that it will change and if it did, it won't be overnight. But, never say never
