I flew with a QD flight attendant the other day and she said she had 6 overnights this month, but she had been away a few more nights in previous month.

There is no international flying in short haul at the moment (aside from SYD/CGK for March) because there is an imbalance of crew between Long Haul and Short Haul. This probably wont change for a while because the domestic network is getting busier from April and they will need the crew to be operating these routes. Meanwhile Long Haul crew are operating SYD/MEL/PER on the A330 to better utilise the LH crew resources

I couldn't find a specific Qantas Domestic thread but this may be of interest to some anyway.

BASE TRANSFERS - INCREASED FLYING

QANTAS DOMESTIC RECRUITMENT

As members are aware, Clause 83 of your Enterprise Agreement provides for further discussion on a number of issues including base transfers. In particular, how voluntary transfers will be actioned into the future.

On 22 February 2010 the Association met with the Company for further discussions on this point and the delayed base transfers from Perth to the East Coast.

On the general issue of base transfers the Association will continue on the basis all parties believe the transfer system needs to provide more certainty as to what triggers movement and whether a system can be developed that provides more certainty around transfers in the future.

The Company also advised/confirmed the following important initiatives:
· There will be a significant increase in the amount of flying for Short Haul. To commence within the next few months. The increase in flying is anticipated to be ongoing.
· As a consequence of the increase in flying there will be recruitment by Qantas Domestic. Recruitment by Qantas Domestic will be into the base of Perth and there maybe Qantas Domestic recruitment for the East Coast. Should this occur it will include opportunities for MAM as part of Qantas Domestic “start up” on the East Coast as was the case in Perth.
· There will be further movement of Cairns base crew to other bases. This will also include the relocation of some flying to other East Coast bases for what the company argues will be more efficient for rostering purposes.

In response to the above points the Association has asked the Company to consider facilitating some base transfers prior to finalising the numbers that will be recruited by Qantas Domestic. Specifically the number of QD necessary base by base.

The meeting concluded with the Company to provide the Association with a timeline and numbers for the above initiatives within the next week. In addition and separate to these considerations the Company has agreed to transfer four (4) Flight Attendants and two (2) Customer Service Managers to transfers from Perth. Further Peth transfers will of course be considered along with other base transfers arising from recruitment into Qantas Domestic.
