Things seem to have panned out pretty much as the rumours from about two weeks ago.
The government wanted the Olympic brand kept, as after setting themselves up for about 600 million euros in old Olympic debt, by taking on all the costs associated with the staff retrenchments, aircraft disposal and other fixed costs, the only thing that was passed on was the name. It would be a bit foolish to have this disappear six months down the line. There was a lot of thought within Aegean that their name should be kept, as the company was much bigger and stronger than the new olympic, and as aegean had been running now for over ten years albeit under various names.
I am sure that there has been no final decision yet on fleet sizing or makeup, this will come in time. (indeed noone knows who the key post holders will be yet.) Certainly it has all come about very quickly. It was only December when Aegean were taking on ex old Olympic pilots for the rjs, and that fleet is now being downsized and those pilots have been let go.
