There is no contaminated land within the current airport boundary although there is some beyond the boundary that in the past has been designated for future airport development. The contaminated areas are the remains of a former sewage farm on the north side (near the tower), the former filter beds on the south side ( behind unipart), the current Severn Trent sludge farm ( behind Parcelforce) and the former scrap yard ( off Rock Farm Lane) and a land fill site in a former quarry ( behind the Atlantic Air hangar). All would be very expensive to convert for housing use but less so for Industrial/commercial use where the ground tends to get covered in concrete. There are also large areas within and beyond the airport boundary that are not contaminated ( land between terminal and Target warehouse - Former alvis site -Sports pitches off Rowley Road)
