I think someone might be adding two and two together here and coming up with any number other than four. Coventry City council has not left the group of West Midland Authorities that owns a share of Birmingham Airport. The group that it has left is the strategic group of councils that were focused on Economic development under the guise of creating the Birmingham City region. When the government gave the pilot status for this concept to the Leeds and Manchester areas Coventry reappraised its membership of this group and decided to withdraw on the basis that Coventry's economic future would be better served by concentrating on the Coventry sub region and forming closer partnerships with local councils within Warwickshire. As Cllr Whitby of Birmingham said when Coventry City council announced this decision Coventry has always had a problem with being seen as an appendage of Birmingham.
Coventry City Council for years has been a shareholder in Birmingham Airport and the landowner of Coventry airport ( along with a lot of other land in the vicinity of the airport ) . This new potential lease hold arrangement will not alter this situation.
