You're right that some kind of demand exists (me!). But obviously, Ryanair couldn't make it work, or EDI either, which is why they dropped them.

Or, to re-phrase that, in the current economic downturn they can't make them work.

Or, to re-phrase the re-phrased bit, in the current economic downturn they might work but they can make more money by flying somewhere else. Which is all they want to do - make money.

p.s. My neighbours just got back from Tenerife on the Ryanair flight. Some sort of computer problem which couldn't be fixed until some engineers were flown in. They said they were all looked after very well - taxis laid on to a hotel for the night. Is this really Ryanair
