Why are the leaders of BA, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM screaming from the rooftops that they are hemorrhaging red ink and fighting for the very lives of their companies? It's only a matter of time before they follow the LoCo lead and Lufthansa is in fact already doing PTF since they own BMI.
You couldn't be further from the truth. These companies you mention are very, very far from fighting for their lives. BA was in dire straits over the summer, i grant you that. Since then the upturn in business travel has been nothing short of spectacular. (the return of huge bankers bonuses must have something to do with it, but that's another story
) The assertion that business travelers deserted the flag carriers to fly loco was a total fabrication from the likes of MOL and AH. They didn't flee to FR or EZY, they just fled to the economy class.
That being said, it is clear why MOL and AH are not seing any "green shoots" while most other airlines do. It's slightly worrying too...
