Good friend of mine is now a Wdebody Captain for an overseas international airline. Coming into Sydney just before Xmas it was the F/O's leg. This company is so big that in the past 6 years the Captain has never flown with the same crew twice!
X-wind on 34L was 12 knots. In the flare the F/O essentially "lost it" and the Captain had to "quickly" take over. When quizzed afterwards, the F/O told the Captain that he had never landed the actual Aircraft in a X-wind! How can that be? Apparently in the short time he had been with the company all the other Captains he had flown with always conducted the X-wind landings themselves. Something the F/O failed to tell him.
More than one lesson learnt that day.
