Crying for the regulators to put a stop to this is unnecessary and crying for wannabees to not sign up is futile.
It has to be pilot corps/union led.
At the risk of (yet again!) repeating myself, ask yourself the following question: why don't BA, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM or any other major airline have these kind of scams/schemes? Why don't those crews have to nickle and dime about crew food, contract pilots, Direct Entry Captains, a car parking pass, or a bottle of water?
The answer is clear: most low-cost pilots didn't have the foresight or backbone for a long term strategy. As a matter of fact, many turned a blind eye to this divide and conquer strategy during the good years and their loyalty was easily (and cheaply!) bought by a quick upgrade or joining as DEC's.
Now I'm afraid it's time to pay the piper!
