For a while i used to fly round in a straight 210 which with its codan HF ssb used to hear the rolling wx from fairbanks, which made it a bit interesting, flying along across the desert, bloody hot and turbulent and all alone and they're talking about temp, -25 degrees ,rolling snow, wind that'd blow a dog off the chain.
earlier in the '47's, we often used to hear LAX talking to the internationals inbound from the pacific on both 6 and 12 megs, I think it was, double side band. now it's often a lonely bitumen road out in the boonies.
