Last night, a Bell 204 helicopter appears to have suffered mechanical failure whilst operating on a fire near Eugowra and the pilot was forced to make a heavy landing resulting in significant damage to the aircraft. The pilot, the only person on board, sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to hospital for observation/treatment. Indications are that the pilot will be OK but expected to be in hospital for the next week or so.
