The SCMP article was a hilarious read. The Air Transport Licencing Authority was soundly criticised for being over generous with Oasis. For all their good intents, Oasis had an unsound business plan, with a sound bunch of Flight Ops managers. HKA/HKE has no business plan, and an unsound buunch of Flight Ops Managers.
These airlines are the HKIA laughing stock with a long history of unfilled business promises, and a history of contraction with business strategies falling from the sky like a world class Chinese fireworks display.
Some of the vaunted plans in the last two years have included:
- 22 B737-800s for HKA (currently 2, after downsizing from 8)
- B777's to god knows where (trashed)
- A340-600s to Bangkok, Dubai, and onwards (trashed)
- China Airlines B747-400 wet lease to Abu Dhabi (trashed after gaining the appripriate approvals)
Looks to me like ATLA might just be doing their job.
