About the Virginia and the parachutists:
The parachutists would climb onto the wings, and cling to the struts during the take off and climb. They were pulled off by the parachutes. They didn't jump, and them pull the ripcord. They just pulled the ripcord, and were pulled off by the inflating parachute. Aeroplane Monthly had something about it some time ago. (35 years or so).
