I have heard the stories about the bint tank as well. In the last 4 years, I have not had any problems with my wife (western) and son entering on there own. I always make sure I have a back up person available just in case we run into the wrong Immigration Officer.
All in all though, entry and exit has been pretty smooth with the proper visas.
