I was interested in the sound. In all our reading of wartime ops the one thing we can't get a decent idea of is: what did a Lanc sound like from the
inside? And this video gives us an idea. Against all my expectations at least, the mix was about 80% airflow & buffet to 20% engines.
For forty years I've been reading of Lancaster ops over Europe and in my imagination the sound inside was all engines - four Merlins amplified by all those rigid and boxed metal sections.............wrong!!
