It depends on the state of registry. Under JAA/EASA regs (Europe) any turbine powered aircraft (single or multi-engined) will require a type rating so that in effect rules out the TBM's and the King Air's, the PC12, and ofcourse the Meridian.
If, however you were to be on the N reg (USA) lets say, you would not require a type rating as all of the aircraft are below 12500 lbs and are single pilot certificated. On saying that, no insurance company is going to let you near a turbine powered aircraft without a FlightSafety International course or similar, and those guys will have a minimum hours for the course requirement, which can sometimes be negotiated down by the training centre managers approval.
The Garmin equipment in the new Mooney = a very capable light aircraft that someone with a PPL and 100 hours should get insured on. BTW never, ever believe a manufacturers claim to range...
