I agree, series of events and possible multiple failures lead to this prang. What I meant to say is that I dont normally believe in multipile failures. Old age and booze again.....
Usually accidents have a primary cause with contributing factors, but in this case I am not so sure.
I do second your call on giving them the 'benefit of the doubt'.
