I was under the impression that Indian aviation was established with the first Postal Flight.....the Pilot was British hence "a worthless Expat"
Not quite a Brit but a French chap.

The history of civil aviation in India started with its first commercial flight on February 18, 1911. It was a journey from Allahabad to Naini made by a French pilot Monseigneur Piguet covering a distance of about 10 km. Since then efforts were on to improve the health of India's Civil Aviation Industry. The first domestic air route between Karachi and Delhi was opened in December 1912 by the Indian State Air Services in collaboration with the Imperial Airways, UK as an extension of London-Karachi flight of the Imperial Airways.

And if you were referring to the first flight of Tata Airlines, Mr J.R.D. Tata did the first two sectors. Mr Neville Vincent did the 3rd & 4th leg.

Air India traces its roots back to October 15, 1932 when its founder, J. R. D. Tata flew a single engined De Havilland Puss Moth registered VT-ADN carrying air mail (postal mail of Imperial Airways) from Karachi's Drigh Road Aerodrome to Bombay's Juhu Airstrip via Ahmedabad. The aircraft continued to Madras via Bellary piloted by a Royal Air Force pilot named Neville Vincent.
