Check out
Flight Planning and Aeronautical Charts at SkyVector.com and
FltPlan.com Flight Planning & Flight Tracking for General Aviation.. Once you get an FAA issued certificate, you can register with DUAT or DUATS for flight planning and weather briefings.
What are you planning on flying? What are you interested in doing? You just going to fly as much as possible every day, or do you actually want to be able to see some sites.
Have you ever done any flying in high DA/mountainous conditions? If not I'd recommend staying south (maybe El Paso - Pheonix), as you can get into a lot of trouble quick if you are not careful.
