Cork's future

Ger, Much as I'd like to see LH, Austrian and other overseas carriers coming to Cork, the reality is that Ryanair and Aerlingus are the only two carriers willing to provide significant growth at Cork in the medium term.

The exodus of overseas carriers from Dublin over the last two years is very significant as it shows that they are either unable or unwilling to compete with the EI and FR on Irish soil.

There's no doubt that there are a few gaps to be filled in the Cork market but if people are going to stay at home sulking just because there's a recession on then it's hard to see any new routes as most of Cork's growth over the last few years was due to people taking multiple trips abroad each year.

Inward tourism has been stagnant and may have even declined during the same period.
