.........Brilliant...thanks comrades for the excellent and speedy response.

My routine trip is LHR JFK, so hardly longhaul by some people's standards these days. 14 hours + would be more important, and even seven hours + for the serious biz community I guess.

Since I'm retired, I'm able to buy my trips well in advance, but at a bargain basement full-fare price that limits seat choice to -24hr. Cherished customers on higher cost tickets can bag the cherished seats early on of course......seems fair.

......Should be ashamed of myself really, since I'm an ex BCal and BA 747 driver, and even operated two or three of the BA 747-400's on their first revenue earning sectors 1990ish. They made us retire at age 50 or 55, so having started a new career that didn't involve being assigned a seat with a forward view, I'm way out of date on all the various updates and configuration changes. I remember the upper deck emergency evacuation door and slide operation though.....waay more fun than the main deck version....
