OK maybe the clue was a bit blatent after the earlier speculation on T-28 ancestors. The North American XSN2J-1 from 1946 to a USN specification for a SNJ=T-6=Harvard replacement. Fairchild offered the XNQ-1 to the same spec. Requirement was withdrawn but the USAF came up with the same need in 1948 resulting in the T-28.
