Confirm 'written-off'. These incidents actually cause amazingly little damage. I could probably fix myself with duct tape, a rivetting kit, drill and pliers. I know I kept enough cars going like that when I were a lad! Maybe if it was coming up to major maintenance and largely lifed-out, one would recalculate whether it is worth repair, especially if surplus to requirements.
