Dear all,
thanks for your help, you surely pointed me into the right direction and I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I tried the stand-alone update of
KB905866 but it failed as well. By now I had done enough reading to attempt a manual install; however, I came across a few issues:
In C

windows\servicing\packages I found a scary collection of KB files, half of them .mum files the other half security catalog(u)e (.cat) files. By manually opening & accessing the downloaded
Windows6.0-KB905866-v31-x86.msu file I thought I could simply replace the 6 files with copy and paste, but ...
I don't have the permission to modify this folder.
How do I get permission to modify it? I am the only user on this laptop.
The other issue is one file specified in CheckSUR.log is not present in the downloaded file. I have no idea how and where to get it. It's Package_for_KB905866~31bf3856ad 364e35~x86~~6.0.26.0.mum
Last but not least, one will notice the suffix ~6.0.26.0.mum. The downloaded file
Windows6.0-KB905866-v31-x86.msu contains the same files
but with the suffix 6.0.31.1. Any risk replacing 26.0 files with 31.1 files?
Past midnight here, will update on my attempts tomorrow.
