B737 pax tables

A strange issue for pilots, but need help on this.

During a recent ramp inspection there started a discussion about the table latches on pax seat back.
The inspector insisted the latches are mounted wrongly, a report was filed.

Back at home base engineering department immediately dismissed the accusation and TechLog entries were answered with no false installation found.

So far so good, fleet keeps flying but issue is under discussion still and eyebrows are raised here and there. Having requested to provide AMM details did not lead anywhere as this was rejected.

Here the request for help.

The 737 classic has brown coloured table latches for seatbacks facing the overwing emergency exit seats.
All latches in the aircraft have a short upper part and longer lower part. The lower part, when table is stowed, is resting in a recess to avoid any passenger moving towards the emergency exit to unlatch the table unintentionally whith clothing etc.
The upper part has no recess but a stop allowing movement of the latch only in one direction.

Now, on the seats A B C where has that stop to be, left or right of the upper latch part?

The discussion has valid points in both directions, upper part is unprotected and needs a stop as it may get caught by pax moving towards the emergency exit and thus may unfold the table.... lower part has recess but is not a protection and may get much easier caught....

Any hints or copies of installation schematics will be highly appreciated.
