on a related "non paying" note, tollerton aerodrome in nottingham was pretty good in the 70s.
a few schoolmates and myself used to cycle over and skip the fence,
hike over the farmers field and bivvy in a disused pillbox.
come morning, climb onto the roof for a grandstand view.
as said pilbox was under the flightline and low level "beatups" were par for the course, this led to a few "jesus, this f
kers low moments!!
1977, and i can still picture a seafury, full chat and VERY, VERY low,
watching through binoculars and ducking as the loon flew over
happy days, warmer summers etc!!!!
