I think the reason for the number of KLM visitors over the years is the flight paths used if you're heading to Amsterdam from South America and the Caribbean. Once the Atlantic has been crossed, Cork is the nearest airport.
Between their former colonies and a long-term development of some of the more minor South American markets, like Panama, Quito, Guayaquil etc. KLM does a lot of business in that part of the world.
