At what point does he need to be strapped in
Its part of the landing checks...

Where in the landing checks does it state...

Crewman................ Attach despatcher harness and then hang out of the door.


You get a really good view of the landing area from being strapped in inside the cabin
He doesn't need a good view of the landing area. Thats why the pilots have been provided with bloomin big windows to look out of.


If this was an approach into a confined area then his role is to check that the aircraft is clear of obstructions and that the landing site is suitable, slope, surround etc etc ... but this was RAF Waddington. there are no obstructions.... the landing site is safe, no slope and a thorough FOD plod was conducted.

Now....go and tell this buffoon to stop showing off and to sit down and strap in.
