Went solo after 17 launches in a Cadet Mk3 at HMS Condor back in 1967. Bill Emsley was my instructor and Lovat Fraser did my check ride. I occasionally bump into Lovat at functions such as the Leuchars Summer ball. I still remember the look on his face when I (as a very green cadet) said to him, "Excuse me sir, is it normal for that Swallow to launch with its airbrakes out?"
