Is W98 the future?

Disclaimer: I am a dork, with only a superficial knowledge of computing, but........

From a layman's point of view, it's always seemed to me that most individuals don't need any more than, say, a pentium 266 for their requirements. The exceptions would appear to be;

1. Gamers
2. Those who use graphics in a big way.
3. Those who must keep up with the Joneses.
4. Those who must have the latest software which, coincidentally enough, requires the latest chip.

Now, however, we are being presented with Sir William's Windows XP, which not only requires masses of hard drive space, memory and processor speed, but which does its own imitation of an ID card in memorizing everything about your computer and demanding that you ask permission to change anything or it will shut you down.

Now those like me who are sitting on a humble Celeron processor and Windows 98 or even 95, either because we are poor or we just don't fit into the above categories, are mostly feeling pretty smug. Billy Boy must be kicking himself that all those W98 CD's are floating around with no protection against burning. I don't need all your fancy software produced simply to justify upgrading the OS, Billy Boy.

Eat ****, old mate, cos I for one ain't changing.
