ONLY the CVR (if ever recovered) can give a conclusive answer as to whether the flight crew attempted to make an emergency transmission or not!!!
Not entirely true. The FDR records Mic Keys to the VHFs. Any Mic Keys following a
significant recorded failure would be, almost certainly I'd say, distress/May Day.
