In my view ACARS is a "messaging system".
Not like a CFDS.
Or a QAR- recorder in parallel with the DFDR.
When ACARS tells you "probe-failure" it does not tell you, what probe fails.
Thats how it works on most airplanes.
My humble oppinion.
