I live a couple of miles from LHR, and there certainly was a thunderstorm very close to me at about 05:15 Z this morning. Woke me up, in fact.
It is perfectly possible that there were similar storms further east (or the same storm moving east, westerly wind).
No idea if any aircraft were hit by lightning, although it is plausible.
