Bodging the book is a fools game in my opinion. it will bite you in the ass eventually, and hopefully those that do it get caught.
On the other hand, how will CASA ever find out about the several thousand hours that.......... someone........ has flown and not logged, due to not being rated for the work or endorsed on type?.
