Using any waypoint inside of your anticipated intercept point is the way to go. Sometimes that will be the CF waypoint and sometimes something closer.

If you pick a waypoint outside where you intend to fly, the FMC legs may not sequence correctly and if you then carry out a go-around and select Lnav you'll be in for a rude 180 turn back the way you came.
Always check the top right of the ND to see if the waypoint has sequenced to the next
