Just got a fax through tonight saying that the strip at Mungerannie has been closed till further notice due to damage from increased traffic to Lake Eyre using the strip. A white Cross has been placed near the Windsock adjacent to RWY Threshold of 35.
Yes, I guess that had to happen. Marree has been identified as a high risk airport due to the increased traffic too. As a result, their insurance has gone up. The landing charges have been upped from $11.00 per single engine to $16.00, & from $16.00 to $20.00 for twins to help cover the cost. Only problem is that the charges are collected via an honesty box at the airport, & I wonder how many people are honest enough to put their money in it.
