I would suggest travelling up the Pacific coast.

. There are lots more interesting places to visit up the PNW in Oregon and Washington. Just watch out for the winds and the sea fog on the coast, weather changes very quickly up here. When flying more inland watch out for turbulence and DA, avoid flying from mid morning to late afternoon if you want to miss the worst of it.
