Thought I'd have another bash at finding what's spoiling hours of chatting to the Rivetess.
Sound drivers were next on the list of things to try, but I found on HP's site, my driver was current. Very old but current. # 5 10 0 57 30 11/2005
Is this typical of older kit...do they stop updating drivers? Realteck SP? board or on MB chip.
I have the option of putting speakers on the laptop, but that's a bit defeatist, in the same way that
Keef's hosting idea would be. Much appreciated, but I want to beat the system. Of course, Skype, with their 18 million users running at one time today, don't sit there waiting for support calls.
This noise is symptomatic of the switching involved in packaging the data, so the sound card idea was just clutching at straws.
I was surprised to see that I have two devices listed. 1394 net adapter and an nVidia nforce networking controller.
I looked again at
Saab's pasted info sheet and looked very carefully as far as I could go in the Options menu. Some of the 'controls' are simply not there.
I had another look at
Jo's post but am not really qualified to delve into the deeper networking issues. So much of it is gobbeldy-gook to me. However, looking for the exact boxes to tick brings a nil result. I guess I'd need a total hand-holding run through.
The thing is this is so consistent...I feel sure there is a switch somewhere that would cure it in one - if I could find it.
