COV as a top notch GA airport

It's all well and good suggesting Coventry could be an excellent GA airport - it certainly could, but that is never ever going to pay for the infrastructure. Business aviation will always be limited by the fact that 14 miles away you have BHX which is fine and not hideously expensive, and of course where most of the Midlands traffic actually wants to go.

Look forward several years and the costs of maintaining an airport of Coventry's size is considerable - no way on this planet does light GA ever come close to paying for that. One needs at least the likes of Gloucestershire's throughput of traffic - 90,000 movements a year but even then if you have ILS, radar etc. etc. it's all a different world. The CAA will need to see that everything is spick and span and maintained appropriately.

Just forget surviving on GA or Business Aviation.

You need to have other sources of revenue, most likely non-aviation-related.

Do you think there is any oil there?!
