... and Freedom Air used to do it with their A320s, which I believe are now badged as Air New Zealand? Standard belt loaders are fine.
The baggage handlers I knew preferred ULDs because the A320 holds are so small and cramped to work in for a loose load, but it's entirely possible. I don't know what impact (if any) it has on the load capacity.
