While talking about Instrument Scans actually give (You know TEACH) your student a 'Scan' (ask the Rex Interview panel how many pilots have stalled the metro sim during an interview)

S&L: AI-VSI
Descent: AI-VSI
Secondary: T scan
And the cross check: Inverted V scan
Build in big safety margins.
