I think you will find the people there are a great bunch to work with. We have had a few new people from overseas in the last year and I think everyone has done their best to welcome them to Sy.
As for the shift lenght it will be 8 hours and I don't think that will change anytime soon.
By joining the union you will have legal representation should you have a accident/ incident.
On the point of rec leave there is the talk of changing to a system of points so that most people can get leave at least once a year when they want it.
As for sick leave with the new EBA you are allowed 8 single days off before a doctors certificate is required. Any 2 or more days sick requires a certificate.
Unfortunately there are no permanent days off so long term planning of weekends away is difficult.
