There is a definite my Airport is best thread here, but just answer me how much just one parallel taxiway for LTN would cost?
Not that much as the existing taxiway just needs extending both ends. The 26 end would be more costly as there would need to be some earth works carried out to build up the land. The 08 end would just need the car park fence moving before work started.

you'd have to move a very large part of Hertfordshire just to support it.
No you wouldn’t as all of the land is already part of Luton and within the airport.

hence whey the Yanks picked STN
because of the taxiway??? Don't think so!!!

(Stansted) it's flat countryside with no challenging approaches whatsoever
Never knew that Luton had challenging approaches being on a hill surrounded by valleys.

won't even go down the route of vehiclular access.
Would have agreed with you a while back but all has changed now that the M1 and Airport Way are both finished.

STN and LTN are not comparable Airports, they are good at what they do, but LTN never has been, or can be without unrealistic investment, an international hub,
Agreed, Stansted is on a completely different scale to Luton and is much easier to expand. Stansted is built on the boring flatlands of Essex which has no aesthetic value while to expand Luton with a second runway would destroy an area of the Chilterns that has outstanding natural beauty. The immediate area to the south of the runway is flat and would be ripe for expansion but I would draw a line at a second runway.

at the end of the day, it was built in the wrong place.
Actually it was built in the right location as Luton has the second biggest catchment area in the UK after Heathrow. It is located 2 miles from the UK’s main North South Motorway with dual carriageway access all the way and is on a mainline rail network with direct links to the Midlands, London, the south east and the south coast.

Stansted's rail departure board with 4 trains an hour to just 1 London destination and 1 train an hour to Birmingham, looks rather empty comparied to Luton
