Yes, you are correct, the tail outwards is one of the two options of position being considered ( the other being nose facing towards the road ). The final decision has not been made. Negotiations are still going on between the board and the council.

Elaborating on my earlier thread about the 'portable' taxiway.
The aircraft will be landing to the SW. The plan at the moment is to lay a road base from the runway to the apron, then lay portable steel planks down for the aircraft to be manoeuvred along on.

The small hangars ( garages, next to the terminal ) will be dismantled temporarily and the aircraft moved through the gap by the terminal, out onto the overflow car park.

Concrete is to be laid at the aircraft's final resting position for the undercarriage to sit on. Towing it nose-first into position is the easier option, but turning it around, and placing it's tail outwards is the other.

The associate of mine is also on the Qantas Founders Museum Board.
