Lossie is a great place, was there for 5 years very recently. Very long days in summer unfortunately become very short days in winter. Embrace the area and you'll enjoy it - go out to the west coast, some great little b&b's and hotels out there. It's not too noisy and anyway, jet noise is the sound of freedom. We had a great time but were happy to move on, I guess that's how all tours should be - more importantly, there's a great family/livers in type atmosphere as most people don't run away at weekends (because they can't). It's why I think it's one of the most sociable bases in the Uk. Some will disagree but that's because they never served there or if they did - they had no friends 'cos they failed to go out and meet people. You'll have a good time if you go and meet people, it's a lovely area, best of luck.
